2020: Gratitude for the gifts

My BFF and I used to schedule a call every New Year's Eve to review the year that was ending and to set our goals for the new year ahead. We stopped doing that years ago, probably because the years started all looking alike...the same successes, challenges, teachable moments, and goals.

Then came 2020: The C Year. Yes, "C" stands for COVID-19, or for coronavirus. But for me, there were other Cs I came to know and love this year.

...The challenge to dig deep and focus fully on my personal growth, recognizing my limiting beliefs and unfounded fears (both real and imagined), acknowledging that they no longer served me.

...The courage to invest my energies and resources into starting a new venture in the midst of a global pandemic.

...The clarity to understand that I deserve to be my authentic self with the world, even if that sometimes makes me feel vulnerable and/or makes others uncomfortable.

... The commitment to finding ways to be visible on social media, something I'd been avoiding at all costs before COVID. The benefits I'm gaining from the connections I'm making are truly priceless.

It hasn't always been easy, but I can honestly say that the things I lost (or chose to let go of) were replaced with blessings that I hadn't anticipated.

I lost a long-term relationship that was very important to me, but I gained the time, energy, and space I needed to learn the importance of self-care. I'm stronger, healthier, and happier as a result.

I lost the complacency that came with lots of free time alone and that resulted in weekend-long Netflix binges. I now have a new type of creative energy that I'm directing towards creating starting something new that aligns with my strengths, skills, values, and gifts.

I lost some people in my life whose values and priorities didn't align with mine. I found more peace, less stress, and much more satisfying ways to spend my time and energy.

I lost my fear of being visible online and as a result, have been meeting an amazing group of women from all walks of life from around the globe. We support and encourage each other, both professionally and personally. I'm connecting with my tribe!

If I had to pick one from all of the Cs I faced this year that was the most transformational, it would have to be aligning myself with an incredible coach and mentor that focuses on empowering female entrepreneurs to bring their best to the world by creating a heart-centered economy. I've been working with Blanca Vergara for the past six months and her Unleashed and True Abundance programs have been life-changing on so many levels. Visit her website to learn more about Blanca and her programs. By the way, I met her on LinkedIn and ended up finally creating a Facebook account just so I could connect with her and her network!

It feels odd to share so many blessings during a year with so much loss, chaos, and isolation for so many, but I hope doing so serves as a reminder that even in the darkest hours, there is always a light... sometimes we just have to look a little harder to find it.

Wishing you a new year full of light and love.
